Shardul Thakur, an India all-rounder, spent Wednesday night in the hospital, and his participation in the Mumbai vs Rest of India Irani Cup match is uncertain.

Sarfaraz Khan grabbed the show on Wednesday, scoring a spectacular double century for Mumbai versus Rest of India (ROI) on Day 2 of the Irani Cup 2024. However, despite their 536-point victory, there were some concerning emotions in the Mumbai dugout following the match. That is because Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who batted 59 balls and scored 36 runs, had to be sent to the hospital due to a high fever of approximately 102 degrees Celsius. Thakur, who had a minor temperature on Day 1, was brought to hospital after spending more than two hours at the crease on Day 2, according to The news reports.

“We have got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. We are waiting for the results. Till then, he will spend the night in hospital,” a source revealed to The Indian Express.

Thakur came out to bat at an unusually low no. 10 position, and it is seemingly his fever and weakness that caused him to do so. Even during his innings, Shardul twice needed medical attention. Later in the day, he was taken to a local hospital and kept under observation for the rest of Wednesday night.

“He had been feeling ill all day and had a high fever, which is why he arrived late to bat. He felt weak and slept in the changing room after taking medicine. But despite his low spirits, he wanted to bat,” the person stated.

Shardul battled despite a high fever to score a tough 36, punctuated by four boundaries and a six. He and Sarfaraz shared a 73-run partnership for the tenth wicket, helping Mumbai surpass 500 runs.

Thakur’s final Test for India came in the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia, which India lost.
