Rinku Singh’s absence from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 selection surprised fans and pundits alike.
Rinku Singh’s absence from India’s selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup surprised both fans and experts. The left-handed hitter fared admirably for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, and since making his T20I debut for India, he has consistently excelled with the bat and in the field. Rinku was not included in the 15-man squad, but he was placed in the reserves alongside Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed. Rinku’s father, Khanchandra Singh, spoke out over his son’s removal from the squad, expressing’sadness’ over the situation.
“Aur isliye thoda dukh bhi hai, umeedein to bohot thi. Patakhe laye the, socha that wo 11 mein khelega, hum mithai. (There is some melancholy since there was hope. In an interview with Bharat 24, he stated, “We thought Rinku would play in the first eleven, so we brought sweets and crackers to celebrate.”
In response to a question concerning Rinku’s current emotions, his father said that the KKR player is somewhat devastated and that he had already called his mother to let her know that he would not be playing in the World Cup.
“Uska dil toh tuta hain. Usne apni maa se baat ki aur bataya ki uska naam nahi hai 11 or 15 mein. He is heartbroken. He informed his mother that he had not been selected in the 11th or 15th rounds. However, he has also stated that he will travel with the team,” Rinku’s father remarked.
Meanwhile, famous Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth was dissatisfied with the selectors’ decision not to include Rinku in the 15-member squad.
“He has scored game-winning runs in South Africa. Remember the game against Afghanistan in which Rohit scored 100 runs? India were 22 for 4, and they went on to score 212. Rinku performed an important Knock. He gave his all whenever he played for India. This is an utterly terrible selection. Why do you require four spinners? Does everyone have to leave? You made the decision to gratify a few individuals and made Rinku Singh a scapegoat,” Srikkanth stated.
