For the match against KKR, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs since it was his team’s second infringement of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rate offenses.
Captain of the Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant, who has recovered magnificently from injuries he suffered in a tragic car accident, was fined Rs 24 lakh on Thursday for committing an infraction related to the second over rate in the 2024 Indian Premier League. In the match on Wednesday against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Pant committed the sin of maintaining a sluggish over. 25% of the match fees for the remaining teammates were punished. The IPL issued a statement headlined “IPL Media Advisory: Code of Conduct Breach” and stated that “Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders.”
“Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs because it was his team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over rate offenses.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” it continued.
After KKR amassed the second-highest total in IPL history—272 for seven—the Delhi Capitals were defeated by 106 runs in the match. The Delhi Capitals had dropped their previous four games.
In accordance with IPL regulations, a captain faces a fine of INR 30 lakh and a match ban if their team commits a slow over-rate infraction three times in a single season. A fine of INR 12 lakh or half of their match fee, whichever is lower, is imposed on the remaining members of the squad. Pant must therefore make sure that his squad does not replicate the offensive.
Former Australian cricket player Michael Clarke discussed Rishabh Pant’s performance against KKR on Star Sports. “Yes, it’s fantastic for Indian cricket, but it’s also fantastic for Rishabh Pant,” he remarked.
I consider it an incredible accomplishment that he was able to return to that caliber of play after putting in so much work in his rehabilitation. It’s wonderful to see him on the field, captaining and performing well in both batting and keeping, and he deserves a lot of praise for his dedication.
“I saw the Delhi physio run out to the field a few times to check on him, so hopefully he’s pulled out okay. The positives are in the presentation, where he stated he was fine. Hopefully, he will be ready for the next game after taking a day or two off.In addition to wanting to see him play for Delhi, we also want to see him return to the field and represent India as soon as possible. He is a wonderful player, and everyone is glad to see him back on the pitch.”
