KL Rahul has been struggling with his bat for a long time.
India captain Rohit Sharma and current India head coach Rahul Dravid have spoken out in the midst of KL Rahul’s batting slump and speculation about his potential replacement gaining traction with each failure.
KL Rahul has recently come under fire from fans and cricket experts alike, with former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad being the most vocal in expressing his displeasure with KL Rahul’s performances for India on the microblogging site Twitter.
“There has been a lot of talk recently about his (KL Rahul) batting. “We look at the potential of any individual, not just KL, and players with potential will get extended runs,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match press conference following India’s six-wicket win over Australia, as quoted by NDTV Sports. By taking a 2-0 lead in the four-match series, the hosts have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
The 35-year-old stated that, while KL Rahul is currently struggling, he still has massive potential to bounce back whenever the team needed him. Most importantly, KL has delivered for the team in the most crucial situations and on the most difficult of pitches.
“Batting at Lord’s on a damp wicket, it was one of the best hundreds I have seen, Centurion as well,” Rohit said.
On an equal note, team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid stated that the management would back KL Rahul for more opportunities in order to provide him with the necessary space and time to bounce back and start delivering for India.
“KL Rahul has been one of our most productive foreign openers. He has a hundred in South Africa and England, and we will continue to support him. I believe he has the quality and class to emerge from this period”
