Jasprit Bumrah has been selected Team India’s vice-captain ahead of the Test series against New Zealand.
The India selection for the Test series against New Zealand was revealed, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made its preference known. While Jasprit Bumrah, a bowler who is largely regarded as India’s most crucial player right now, was officially named vice-captain by the BCCI selection committee, Rohit Sharma is still the team captain. Bumrah is a longstanding member of the leadership group even though he has significant experience as a captain.
Rohit was asked about Bumrah’s leadership before the first Test against New Zealand, given that he has now been officially named vice-captain. The Hitman expressed his appreciation for Bumrah’s contributions during matches, despite his lack of captaincy experience at any level.
“Look, Bumrah’s played a lot of cricket. I’ve played a lot of cricket with him. He understands the game quite well. He knows what he’s doing. When you talk to him, he understands the game,” Rohit said media during India’s pre-match press conference after rain disrupted training. He hasn’t made many captures, so I can’t say much about his tactics. I suppose he captained a few of Twenty20s and one Test match,” he continued.
“He knows what needs to be done. I believe that Bumrah will be one of those leaders who steps forward when the time comes. He has thus always been a member of our leadership group,” Rohit remarked.
As the team’s most seasoned pacer, Bumrah has also been assigned the duty of mentoring the team’s younger pacers.
He’s been a member of that leadership group for the entire time, whether it’s talking to the recently acquired bowlers or holding internal team meetings to decide how to go as a unit.
“It’s probably a good idea to have him present so he can talk to the bowlers and internally brainstorm ways to move the team forward,” Rohit continued.
Mohammed Shami, Bumrah’s pace bowling partner, may make a comeback, according to Rohit. The captain of India essentially disqualified Shami from the Australia tour, implying that the seasoned speedster is still raw. We’re finding it challenging to determine whether he’ll be ready for this series or the Australia series at the moment, to be very honest. Rohit stated, “He developed swelling on his knee recently, which was really rare.
He had been getting close to 100 percent fit when he developed swelling in his knee, which somewhat slowed down his recuperation. He so had to begin anew. He’s currently working with the physicians and physiotherapists at NCA,” he continued.
