In their IPL 2024 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), star batter and former Indian Premier League (IPL) captain Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians will play his 200th league match.
Rohit Sharma has been an outstanding performer for the Mumbai Indians since joining the team in 2011. He has played 199 IPL matches with MI, scoring 5,084 runs at an average of 29.39 and a strike rate of 129.86. Rohit has one century and 34 fifties in 195 innings with MI, with a top score of 109*.
After succeeding Ricky Ponting as captain in 2013, Rohit took MI to unprecedented heights of achievement, winning five IPL titles in ten years (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and making two postseason berths. He gave Hardik Pandya the captaincy last year after an eventful tenure that saw him gain notoriety after two outstanding seasons with the Gujarat Titans.
In addition, Rohit Sharma won two Champions League T20 titles with MI in 2011 and 2013, the latter while serving as captain. With 5,357 runs in 208 games and 204 innings at an average of 29.59 and a strike rate close to 130, one century, and 35 fifties, he is MI’s all-time leading run scorer. Prior to joining MI, Rohit played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers from 2008 to 2010. In 45 games, he amassed 1,170 runs at a strike rate of more than 131 and an average of 30.79. He added another honor to his collection in 2009 when he was instrumental in the IPL championship victory.
Rohit Sharma, with an average of 29.63 and a strike rate of 130.15, is now the fourth-highest run scorer in IPL history with 6,254 runs in 244 matches. With a best score of 109*, he has an outstanding record of one century and 42 fifties in 239 innings.
Beyond his on-field exploits, Rohit has had a significant impact on the careers of a number of future Indian players, including Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and Ambati Rayadu. The fact that Rohit Sharma made it to his 200th IPL game is evidence of both his lasting influence in the competition and his significant contributions to the Mumbai Indians team.
