About Replacing MS Dhoni as CSK Skipper
Ruturaj Gaikwad was named the captain of the Chennai Super Kings for the 2024 Indian Premier League, and to celebrate, Suryakumar Yadav posted a special message for the young player on social media.
Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians took to social media to send a special message to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been named captain of the Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2024 season. The franchise announced on Thursday that Gaikwad will take over as captain from MS Dhoni, sparking heated debate on social media. MS Dhoni has guided CSK to the IPL title five times, the joint-most of any captain, together with Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar wrote on Instagram that Ruturaj will have to fill Dhoni’s large shoes, but that his ‘cool and serene’ demeanor will be a huge advantage.

The Indian Premier League announced the news one day prior to CSK’s matchup with Royal Challengers Bengaluru on X. Shortly afterward, the five-time champs released a brief statement.
Prior to the commencement of the TATA IPL 2024, MS Dhoni has given Ruturaj Gaikwad the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings. Ruturaj joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2019 and has participated in 52 IPL games while with them. The group is excited about the forthcoming campaign,” CSK stated.
Due to rumors that Dhoni will retire at the end of the season, the team needed to make a seamless transition when the veteran batsman left the team.
Gaikwad made his debut for CSK in 2020 and has since played 52 games for the squad. He has represented India in six ODIs and 19 T20s.
“Every action taken by Dhoni serves the team’s best interests. It was shortly before the captains’ meeting that I learned of the decision. that’s his call, and you have to respect that,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told PTI.
With a remarkable run of 590 runs at a strike rate of 147.50 in 16 games, the elegant opener had a remarkable year in 2017. In 16 games in 2021, he scored 635 runs, which was his breakthrough year.
