Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named Maharashtra’s captain for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. Last year, Kedhar Jadhav was the skipper, but after retiring from the sport in June, Ruturaj has been elected the leader. In the last year, the 27-year-old has been a member of India’s Test squad on tours to the West Indies and South Africa.
This time around, he’s anticipated to play every game and once again put his hand in the ring for the national Test team, after being injured during the last Ranji Trophy season and playing in just a few matches. Gaikwad would find some comfort in being selected his state’s captain even though he has already led Maharashtra in List A cricket. He was recently left out of India’s team for the Sri Lanka white-ball tournament.
Gaikwad was hurt in the group stage of the previous Ranji season and was only able to play in one game. Maharashtra suffered and was unable to go past the group stage as a result of his absence. With the seasoned batter on their side this time, they’ll aim to challenge for their first championship in eighty-three years.
