Ruturaj Gaikwad has taken over as captain of the Chennai Super Kings, succeeding MS Dhoni. The IPL’s official social media account has confirmed it. The 42-year-old has won five IPL titles as CSK’s skipper, winning the championship last year after defeating Gujarat Titans in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

M.S. Dhoni has resigned as captain of the Chennai Super Kings. Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain the team in IPL 2024. Dhoni, 42, has led the Super Kings since the IPL began in 2008, with the exception of two years when the franchise was suspended following the 2013 spot-fixing case, but he handed up the reins to Ravindra Jadeja at the start of the 2022 season.

However, Dhoni returned to the captaincy after eight matches.

He has led Chennai Super Kings in 212 IPL matches, winning 128 and losing 82.

Last year, Dhoni led CSK to a record-equaling fifth IPL victory on the third day of a T20 final against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. It was also CSK’s seventh title in all T20 tournaments, tied with Mumbai and Titans (South Africa), and trailing only Sialkot Stallions (8).

On August 15, 2020, Dhoni declared his international retirement. He guided India to the 2007 World Twenty20 championship, the 2011 World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
