Sachin Tendulkar, one of cricket’s best batters ever, has received recognition for his services to the game.

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar accepted the invitation to become an honorary member of the esteemed Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) on Friday, the club announced. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the game’s top grounds, is managed and developed by the MCC, one of Australia’s oldest sports clubs, which was founded in 1838. “An icon is honored. In recognition of his exceptional contribution to cricket, the MCC is happy to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership,” the MCC wrote on ‘X’.

The all-time record for most runs at MCG is presently held by the great Tendulkar, who amassed 449 from five Test matches at an average of 44.90 and a strike-rate of 58.69, including 33 fifties.

Tendulkar received the Order of Australia, one of the nation’s highest honors, earlier in 2012.

The rubber is finely matched at 1-1 when India and Australia play their crucial fourth and penultimate Test match at the MCG.
