For the second Test match against the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team, the Australian National Cricket Team has drastically altered their roster. According to sources in The Age, opening batsman Sam Konstas has been removed from the team and will return home to play domestic cricket.
Australia didn’t consider Konstas for the second Test, so he went back to the team hotel on Tuesday to pack for his trip back to Sydney following a net session. Instead of being benched for the upcoming Sheffield Shield cricket season, he has been sent back.
The fact that Konstas is returning home and will be there for the match between Queensland and New South Wales was confirmed by him. He discussed playing under Asian conditions and the lessons he learned from Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Usman Khawaja, among others. “That’s the strategy. Hopefully, I’ll be able to return for Saturday’s first game (NSW vs. Queensland). Being a member of the team and experiencing the methods of players like Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Usman Khawaja has been an immense honor. And, of course, having experience in Dubai on the Asian continent.
Regarding Travis Head opening the innings in the first Test, Sam Konstas stated that he understood the decision and that the trip to Sri Lanka was a fantastic way for him to see Asian conditions. Then he added:
“The decision to not play in the first Test was one that I understood.” In these conditions up top, Travis Head, a legend of the game, has been dominating. For me, that meant trying to learn about Dubai and Sri Lanka and, if I do play on the subcontinent, I feel like I learnt a lot. That’s about it.Australia’s Sam Konstas will now play in the ICC World Test Championship final. During the press conference, Travis Head confirmed that he would be the team’s first pitcher.
