Virat Kohli’s selection for the team is still up for controversy because of rumors regarding his strike rate and intentions. The Indian team’s lone notable pace-bowling all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, has had his future severely questioned due to his subpar all-around performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, revealed his 15-man team for the June main event while the rumors circulate.
Top-order: Irfan chose Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rohit Sharma to bat first. Shubman Gill is still available among the reserves, and any of them can be used for the two opening positions. Irfan selected four players in total for the first two positions, with Gill and Kohli having the ability to play at the No. 3 spot.
Middle-order: Hardik Pandya is the only pace-bowling all-round player, with Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube occupying the middle-order positions. Although Dube is a seam bowler as well, the Chennai Super Kings have not yet utilized him as a bowler in the IPL. Sanju Samson was surprisingly left off the roster, while Pant was the sole wicketkeeper selected. Among the elite players that were left out were KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.
Spinners: The team’s lone spin-bowling all-around player is Ravindra Jadeja, who is supported as a spinner by Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Famous names missing from the list were Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy.
Pacers: In the pace bowling unit, Jasprit Bumrah had the company of Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh with him. The names of a few other players like T Natarajan, Mayank Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed etc. have also been discussed but Irfan went with the tried-and-tested combination among pacers.
