It would have been a fitting farewell to Sania Mirza from Grand Slams  had she won the final of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open 2023 with Bopanna, but the Indian duo fell short at the last hurdle.

Sania Mirza’s last Grand Slam appearance was at the Australian Open, where she teamed up with Rohan Bopanna and reached the mixed doubles final. The six-time Grand Slam champion will not compete in any Grand Slams and will soon retire. “For me, it’s more about people telling me why they’re stopping than when they’re stopping. I still have the game and can win tennis matches at the highest level. But that isn’t the point. However, what goes into maintaining and competing at this level is a concern.I am no longer physically, mentally, or emotionally capable of dealing with this. The problem is with the procedure. In Melbourne, I would spend hours with the physio in order to compete. What goes into your ability to compete is something I can’t deal with anymore. And I’m not one to compete when I know I can’t do it anymore,” Sania Mirza said on the Backstage with Boria show.
