Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, scored 24 and 39 in the first Test against England. With Virat Kohli and KL Rahul out, Manjrekar wants him to take the lead.
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricket team hitter, urges Rohit Sharma to play in the same way that Sachin Tendulkar led the Indian batting. With Virat Kohli missing the IND vs. ENG second Test, Manjrekar believes Rohit should take the lead in batting to guide the young players. Rohit managed only 24 and 39 in the Hyderabad Test, as India lost by 28 runs and failed to chase 231.
Sanjay Manjrekar explained, “You noted that Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 80 with a strike rate of 100. The strike rate fell to 40 in the second inning, for no apparent reason. The only explanation is that they felt pressure when they stepped up to bat.”
Manjrekar felt the reason for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s drop in strike rate was not the pitch. Instead, he felt pressured. Rohit Sharma should take the initiative in this situation. Manjrekar stated, “This is where Rohit Sharma had to play a role similar to what Sachin Tendulkar did for many years.” He must be the only batter to deal with the circumstance.”
