After India’s team for the Australia series was revealed, Irfan Pathan offered a shocking message for Sanju Samson.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for a series in which superstars Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav won’t play in the first two games but still decided to omit wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson because the standout batter failed to make it back onto the Indian roster for the Australia series. Irfan Pathan, a former Indian all-rounder, delivered an intriguing comment on Monday in response to India’s team announcement for the three-match series against Australia.

Samson was initially selected as India’s backup hitter for the Asia Cup despite having a string of forgettable outings against the West Indies in the Caribbean. However, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were chosen as India’s two alternatives for the ICC World Cup 2023 wicketkeeper position, leaving Samson out of the team. The selection committee was directed by Ajit Agarkar.

India’s teams for the three-match series against Australia were revealed on Monday. For the Australia series, the team led by Rahul Dravid selected two different lineups. As youthful players Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar were picked up for the first two One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia, Samson’s name vanished from both squads. Following India’s team announcement, ex-cricketer Irfan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “If I’m in place of @IamSanjuSamson right now I will be very dissatisfied…

Ashwin seals ODI return before World Cup

Star hitters Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill have kept their spots in the ODI team, despite the fact that Rahul and Kishan are leading contenders to maintain wickets for India. The Indian team has added youngster Tilak Varma for the first two One-Day Internationals against Australia. After India announced their team, Ashwin’s return became the main topic of conversation. The senior all-rounder did not make the 15-person India World Cup team. Ashwin also missed India’s Asia Cup appearance. Axar Patel’s hamstring issue forced him out of the ODI lineup, but Ashwin was able to return. The last ODI Ashwin, an all-around spin bowler for India, played was in 2022.

India squads for Australia ODIs:

For first two ODIs: KL Rahul (c), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna, R Ashwin, Washington Sundar.

For 3rd ODI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel (subject to fitness), R Ashwin, Washington Sundar.
