The quarterfinal pairings for the current Durand Cup edition were revealed following a draw. Defending champions Mohun Bagan FC will face Punjab FC.
Following a draw, the quarterfinals of the current Durand Cup were revealed, featuring the reigning champions Mohun Bagan FC and Punjab FC. According to a news release from the Indian Super League (ISL), representatives from the eight qualified teams participated virtually in the draw. Following the conclusion of the FC Goa vs. Shillong Lajong FC Group F match in Shillong on Saturday and the identification of the eight qualifying teams, a video conference was organized, during which members of every qualified club participated.
They were then presented with a live drawing of lots, which determined which two teams would play in each venue.
Considering the playing conditions, it was also decided to move the second quarterfinal from Kolkata to Shillong.
The Durand Cup began on July 27 and will conclude at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on August 31. This year’s competition included 24 teams in total, including all 12 teams of India’s premier football league, the Indian Super League (ISL), plus one overseas team from Nepal.
Group A’s bitter rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal advanced to the quarterfinals with two victories, one tie, and seven points. Bengaluru FC earned nine points and three victories in three games to advance from Group B. Kerala Blasters and Punjab FC advanced from Group C with two victories, a draw, and seven points, respectively, to the final eight. When Indian Army FT won all three of their games, they advanced farther out of Group D. With nine and seven points, respectively, Northeast United and Shillong Lajong advanced from Group E and F to the Quarterfinals.
