Shahid Afridi backed team director Mohammad Hafeez by stating that the team’s captain and management have to have contracts that are at least three years long.

Shahid Afridi, the former captain, has pleaded with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to stick to the practice of having a single leader for all formats in order to avoid internal disputes over captaincy. Star batsman Babar Azam resigned from leading all three forms after Pakistan was eliminated from the ODI World Cup’s group stages last year. Shan Masood led the Tests, while PCB named Shaheen Shah Afridi the captain of the T20s.

“A vice-captain is not necessary; the PCB needs just one captain for all formats. This will send a strong message to all players about who is in control,” Afridi said to the assembled press.

The 46-year-old, who expressed support for team director Mohammad Hafeez, stated that the team administration and captain ought to have contracts that are at least three years long.

“If you think Muhammad Hafeez is good then don’t just judge him on one series give him proper time and the same should apply to the captain as well he should be there for three years.” Before the World Cup later this year, Afridi stated that players in the T20 squad have to get a lot of practice.

This year’s World T20 Cup promises to be an extremely competitive event, with several elite teams vying for the championship. Additionally, I don’t think the format squad has to be changed at this moment,” he stated.

“We simply must keep playing with the same group of players and offer them encouragement. However, he expressed his preference for Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub to begin the batting in Twenty20 matches.
