Shakib Al Hasan has declared his retirement from T20Is and intimated that he will end his Test career after the match against India in Kanpur.
Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s senior all-rounder, has announced his retirement from T20Is, stating that the Kanpur Test against India could be his final red-ball encounter. The news was made during a press conference ahead of the second Test between India and Bangladesh.
Shakib indicated that he wishes to bid farewell to the longest format in front of his home audience in Mirpur. However, if the wish is not granted, the match against India will be his last Test appearance. “I have expressed my desire to play my last Test in Mirpur, if that won’t happen, second Test against India would be my last,” says Shakib.
It’s interesting to note that Shakib Al Hasan faced India in his Test debut. He played his maiden red-ball match for Bangladesh at Chattogram in May of 2007, and he has since played 70 Test matches for his nation. Having scored 4,600 runs with five centuries and thirty-one half-centuries, Shakib has an outstanding record and is expected to remain the third-highest run scorer in Bangladesh’s Test history when his career finishes.Shakib leads Bangladesh in Test cricket wicket-taking with 242 wickets, making him the most dominant bowler in the country. He has cemented his reputation as one of Bangladesh’s best all-rounders by being the only bowler in his nation to reach the 200-wicket plateau in Test cricket.
