Shan Masood, a left-hander, has been selected by Pakistan for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Masood, 32, takes the place of Fakhar Zaman, who will only be one of the backup players due to a knee injury he sustained while playing in the Asia Cup final. Star paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi, who missed the Asia Cup due to a knee injury but is recovering and is anticipated to resume bowling fitness early next month, is included in the 15-member team.

Mohammad Wasim, a seamer who missed the Asia Cup due to a side strain, will also joining the team after making a full recovery. Hasan Ali and Shahnawaz Dahani, who participated in the competition, are eliminated.

The inclusion of Masood, who is uncapped in this format at the international level, was the selection’s greatest discussion point. For Multan Sultans, the left-hander had a fantastic PSL 2022 season, scoring 478 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 138.15. In the National T20 Cup recently, Masood scored 204 runs in eight innings with a strike rate of 129.93. More significantly, these runs came in the middle order, which is now Pakistan’s trouble spot.

T20 WC squad:

Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Usman Qadir
