The captain of Bangladesh believes that his team may win the forthcoming competition and go all the way.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, has warned opposing teams at the ICC Champions Trophy that his squad is going into the competition with the belief that they may pull off a huge upset and win their first ICC event.

The Asian team has only won one bilateral ODI series since defeating Sri Lanka 2-1 at home in March of last year, and they only won two games at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

Shanto, however, believes that the Bangladeshi team is becoming more committed and is sure that his team might surprise in the eight-team event that will begin on February 19 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

“We are going to the Champions Trophy to become champions,” remarked Shanto.

“This tournament’s eight teams are all deserving of victory. They are all excellent teams. I am confident that our team is capable. There won’t be any more pressure.”Everyone sincerely wants to be a champion and believes in their ability.

“We don’t know what Allah has planned for our fate. We are working hard and striving to do our best. I am confident that we can attain our aim.” At this year’s Champions Trophy, Bangladesh has been drawn into Group A. They will play India in Dubai first up on February 20 before playing New Zealand and Pakistan in Rawalpindi on February 24 and 27, respectively, for a possible berth in the tournament’s knockout stages.

Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladesh, does not have a berth in the team, but Shanto thinks his 15-man roster is well-balanced with a fair combination of youth and experience.

“I am very happy and confident with the 15 players in the squad,” stated Shanto.

“Any player has the capacity to win a game by himself.

“We have a solid pace bowling team currently, whereas not too long ago we lacked good pace bowlers.

“We now have wrist spinners, whereas previously we didn’t. We have a well-rounded team overall. We can beat any team at any time as long as everyone does their duties correctly.
