The team for India’s participation in the upcoming 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, which gets underway in South Africa on February 10, was announced on Wednesday by the All-India Women’s Selection Committee. Shikha Pandey, a fast bowling all-rounder, has made a sensational comeback to the 15-person team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur. Shikha, 33, last played in a T20I in Australia in October 2021. She was then unexpectedly cut from the squad before the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2022. Shikha, who has taken 40 wickets in WT20Is, is India’s second-highest wicket-taker after Jhulan Goswami.
The BCCI stated that the addition of all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar would depend on her level of fitness even though there were no other standout players in the squad, which was largely chosen by itself. India’s recent home series against Australia was missed by Vastrakar. Anjali Sarvani, a left-arm seamer, will play in her first T20 World Cup after an impressive debut in the most recent series.
