In a statement on behalf of Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar clarified that Abdul Razzaq’s contentious comments on Indian actress Aishwarya Rai were not understood by the former captain of Pakistan.

Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq went too far in his criticism of the Pakistani team’s performance in the 2023 World Cup, bringing up the contentious subject of Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. In addition to Razzaq, other attendees at the press conference were Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi. Even though Gul and Afridi didn’t say it, many people—including Shoaib Akhtar—were left with a bad taste in their mouths since they refused to denounce it during the press conference. Following his criticism of Gul and Afridi for their responses to Razzaq’s remark, Akhtar offered an other viewpoint in a recent social media post.

Akhtar attacked the trio after the video of Razzaq’s remark and Afridi’s response became viral on social media. Afterwards, though, the Rawalpindi Express implied that Afridi was unable to comprehend Razzaq’s actual words.

“I just spoke with @SAfridiOfficial. He called and said that if he had understood what was said, he would have condemned it right then and there.

Razzaq has released an apology and a clarification after the uproar erupted. Afridi and Gul both released remarks in which they denounced the events of the press conference.
