It is believed that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer will not be on the BCCI’s central contract list for the 2023–24 season.
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer continue to separate themselves from the Ranji Trophy when they are not on international assignment for various reasons. Iyer is claimed to be dealing with a minor back spasm issue, while Kishan has allegedly been “working on his technique” in preparation for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The upper brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appears to be dissatisfied with Kishan and Iyer, though, and it is possible that they will be excluded from the upcoming central contracts list.
The news reported that Iyer and Kishan will not be included in the group of players under central contract for the 2023–24 campaign. Their omission from domestic cricket, despite the board’s request, is purportedly one of the reasons for this decision.
The list of players under central contract for the 2023–24 season has nearly been finalized by the selectors, under the direction of Ajit Agarkar, and will be released by the BCCI shortly.
“Kishan and Iyer are likely to be excluded from that list, as both haven’t been playing domestic cricket despite the BCCI’s diktat to do so,” according to a newspaper source.
According to a source close to Iyer, who was also reported in the publication, Iyer’s back issue prevented him from playing in the last three Test matches against England.
He was “excluded from India’s squad for the last three Tests as a precautionary measure, after he complained of a back problem.” After England’s second Test, Patel sent an email to the BCCI. Ever since, Iyer has struggled with a back issue,” the insider claimed. “During last year’s ODI World Cup in India, Iyer was among the best batsmen for India.” For missing the occasional Ranji match, he won’t forfeit his contract.”
Regarding the 2022–2023 central contract, Ishan Kishan received Rs. 1 crore and Rs. 3 crores, respectively, and Shreyas Iyer received Rs. 1 crore and Rs. B crore.
