Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been instructed to take steps not to worsen his injury.
Shreyas Iyer, who had been sidelined for the final two days of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy finals due to back problems, has been cleared to participate in the Indian Premier League, but with a rider. It has been suggested to the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who recently joined the IPL team, that he shouldn’t lunge excessively when playing forward defense because this could exacerbate his ailment.According to information obtained by some news sources, Iyer saw a spine expert in Mumbai following his appointment with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The doctor deemed Iyer fit to play, but he advised him to use caution when stretching his leg.
“He is healthy to play; he saw a Mumbai-based spine specialist who gave him advice not to extend his leg too far forward when guarding the ball. He can play now that he’s joined the KKR IPL team, an Indian board source said.
Iyer’s fitness concerns have garnered media attention in recent weeks. Even though he claimed that after playing a specific amount of balls, he had back pain, the BCCI medical staff wasn’t persuaded by his story.
Iyer recently played in Mumbai’s semifinal and final, however he had missed the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. He crushed 95 in the second inning of the championship game, but he didn’t show up to field because he was having more back problems. The MCA medical staff made the decision to get an MRI, and they forwarded the results to NCA for more information.
After India’s second Test match against England, Iyer had complained of back problems. Even though he claimed to be in discomfort, NCA nevertheless deemed him fit. After that, Iyer was requested to play in the Ranji Trophy but was forbidden from playing in Test games. When he was absent from Mumbai’s quarterfinal match, BCCI secretary Jay Shah sent a letter to all players under contract noting that domestic cricket is still a “critical yardstick for selection” for the national squad.
The letter stated that “the concerning trend of players prioritising the IPL over domestic red-ball cricket” was the cause for the communication. A worrying tendency has been seen recently and should be taken seriously. Unexpectedly, some players have started to value the IPL more than local cricket. In our vision for the game, domestic cricket has always been the cornerstone upon which Indian cricket is built, and Shah stated as much in the letter.
