The pace spearhead of team Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, completed 250 international wickets on Saturday. Senior batsman Shreyas Iyer said that he was quite surprised at the speed of his recovery from a back injury, because of which he had to stay out of action for around 5 months, while adding that he did not expect to be playing at the Asia Cup 2023. Shreyas, who recovered from a back injury, was included in the playing 11 for the opening batch of team India against Pakistan in a group A contest in Pallekele on Saturday. Iyer also underwent a successful back surgery in London on April 21, 2023. Despite the success of his operation, the recovery process was quite challenging. Iyer described the rehabilitation phase as the toughest part of his journey because it took time for the pain to subside. Before the India versus Pakistan match, Shreyas Iyer told the broadcasters, “It’s fantastic, and I never imagined playing in the Asia Cup because the recovery was going slow and steadily. but I was really happy when God selected me for the team. I am completely fine, and we are just going to take it as the next game.” |
