A report suggests that Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, could not be able to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 opening games.
According to news sources, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 captain Shreyas Iyer of the Kolkata Knight Riders would have to miss the first games. According to the report, after the batsman hit 95 runs for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha, his previous back ailment has reportedly flared up again. Iyer suffered the same issue in 2023 and had surgery for it; with the new development, he may miss the first few IPL 2024 matches. “It does not appear good. This is an aggravating case of the same back issue. On Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final, it seems unlikely that he will take the field.
After being excluded off the BCCI’s central contract list, Iyer views the IPL as a critical competition. On March 23, KKR’s opening match of the league takes place in Kolkata against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Iyer had to be examined twice by the Mumbai team physiotherapist after experiencing back spasms during his 95-run innings. He did not play for Mumbai on Wednesday either, and the report stated that he is unlikely to play any more in the Ranji Trophy final.
During the just finished Test series against England, Iyer had already complained about this issue.
The source stated, “He had informed the Indian team management about this injury bothering him again during the recently held Test series against England at home.”
He doesn’t, according to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), have any fresh injury worries.
