Shriyanka Sadangi secured India’s 13th Paris Olympics shooting quota after finishing fourth in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event at the present Asian Shooting Championship.
Shriyanka Sadangi earned India’s 13th Paris Olympics quota in shooting on Tuesday, finishing fourth in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event at the Asian Shooting Championship in Changwon, Korea. Shriyanka fired 440.5, bowing out after the 43rd shot of the 45-shot final, which was evenly spread across the kneeling, prone, and standing positions. Korean veteran Lee Eunseo won gold, while China’s incumbent air rifle world champion Han Jiayu took silver. China won bronze as also, thanks to Xia Siyu.
From the qualification stage, all Indian women shooters in the 3P category were at the top of their game. Sift Kaur Samra, India’s number one, scored 592 playing for ranking points only (RPO) to vault to the top of the rankings.
Ashi Chouksey shot 591 to place first among competitors and second overall. Shriyanka and Ayushi Podder finished in the top eight with scores of 588 and 587, respectively.
Manini Kaushik, who also shot RPO, finished 10th overall with 586 points.
Shriyanka was the quickest out the blocks among the three Indians in the last round, clocking a 10.9. She was second with 51.3 after the first five kneeling shots, while Ayushi and Ashi were sixth and seventh, respectively.
After 10 shots, Han and Lee were already 1-2, and Shriyanka had replaced Ayushi in fourth, a position she would hold until the end.
Ashi began her ascent from the prone position, while Shriyanka remained in fourth place. Ayushi dropped to sixth place. Han had passed the baton to Lee.
Shriyanka and Ashi both shot 10.8 on their fourth shot in the standing position, while the latter shot an 8.7.
After the first ten shots in the standing position, Indian quota was confirmed when Koreans Bae Sanghee and Ayushi finished eighth and seventh, respectively.Shriyanka shot 10.1 to Ashi’s 9.8 in the final five single-shots to confirm her quota. Arina Altukhova of Kazakhstan was up next, but she had already claimed one of the two open Paris quotas. Shriyanka shot a 10.0 for her 43rd, finishing a creditable fourth with 1.6 between her and China’s Xia.
