Anil Kumble, a former captain of the Indian team, stated that Shubman Gill needs to improve his mentality and slightly modify his technique for the second Test, which begins on February 2.
Anil Kumble, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, believes that veteran Cheteshwar Pujara never received the same level of “cushion” that embittered Shubman Gill has, and the young batter must perform well in the second Test match against England or else face extreme pressure. In his previous 11 Test innings, 24-year-old Gill has not amassed a half-century. In March of last year, he scored 128 in the opening inning of India’s match against the visiting Australian in Ahmedabad; after then, his highest score has been 36.
In the first Test match between India and England, which India lost by 28 runs on Sunday, he scored 23 and 0 in the two innings.
“Even though Pujara has played more than 100 Tests, Gill has been given the cushion that perhaps even Cheteshwar Pujara did not get,” Kumble remarked.
The major reason I keep returning to Pujara is since that was his spot (No. 3) not too long ago. After Pujara participated in the World Test Championship final, Shubman Gill took over as the opener and expressed a desire to bat at number three. After his last test match, which was the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023, the 36-year-old Pujara was forgotten. Earlier last month, he made a double hundred (243 not out) in a Ranji match.
Prior to the commencement of the England series, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma declared that younger players were being given preference in an effort to look ahead.
