Shubman Gill is one of the best and most complete batters in international cricket, but his leadership abilities have also been recognized.
Shubman Gill, who made his debut for the Indian side five years ago, has since become an important element of India’s batting line. Not only is his batting outstanding, but his leadership potential and ability to deal with pressure have garnered him a lot of accolades. Gill is the captain of the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, and he recently guided a young Indian squad to a 4-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the T20I series.
Following the Zimbabwe series, Gill was selected India’s vice-captain for the impending tour to Sri Lanka. India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs in this tour. Former India batting coach Vikram Rathour feels Gill would eventually lead India in all three forms.
“Every time I’ve seen him, whether for the Gujarat Titans or in Zimbabwe, he did a wonderful job. He’s displayed excellent body language, which is essential when leading a team. With the vice-captaincy, the BCCI has given him greater responsibility, and I am confident he will thrive in this capacity. “Captaincy brought out the best in Virat and Rohit, and I believe it will do the same for Shubman. Although he is not yet the captain, being part of the leadership group will bring out the best in him as well. This is something I feel quite confident in. When you are in that capacity, leading others, it gives you that extra piece of responsibility, which is wonderful and I believe is ideal for a young kid like Shubman, who might one day lead India in all three formats,” Rathour added.
