Two rising stars from India have surpassed previous records and gained ground on the world’s top-ranked batter.
On the most recent ICC ODI Rankings, two young guns from India have surpassed their previous career highs and gained ground on Babar Azam, the top-ranked batter in the world. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have gained ground on the Pakistan captain after their strong beginnings to the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, even if Babar Azam still has a commanding lead in the ranks of ODI batters.
Less than one month before the start of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Shubman Gill scored an undefeated 67* during India’s must-win match against Nepal, raising his rating to a career-high of 750 rating points and placing him third among ODI batters. In addition to receiving a new career-best record of 624 rating points and a 12-place jump to position 24 on the revised list for ODI batters, Kishan demonstrated his class with a stunning 82 during India’s match against Pakistan in Pallekele.
The inspirational Pakistani captain still has a commanding lead at the top of the ODI batter rankings with a total of 882 rating points despite playing just one innings so far at the Asia Cup. With a brilliant 151 against Nepal, Babar Azam demonstrated just how destructive he can be. Shubman Gill, who recently moved up one slot, is the newest contender to the top two. Rassie van der Dussen, a potent South African batter, barely maintains second place.
Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka (up eight ranks to 29th) gains ground on the most recent ODI batter rankings, and a number of other international players who are dominating the Asia Cup have made significant gains on the most recent bowler rankings.
Due to his six wickets in Pakistan’s first two matches, pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi jumps four spots to take sixth overall on this list. Meanwhile, teammates Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah both have new career-high rankings as a result of their outstanding performances.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, moved up two spots to land in the top 10, and Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana moved up five spots to land in the top 15, both making significant gains in a competitive rankings list for bowlers that still places Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc at the top.
Following the conclusion of an intriguing series between South Africa and Australia in Durban and the first three matches between England and New Zealand, there was also a lot of movement on the most recent T20I rankings.
