Shubman, who scored 200 by smashing Lockie, is the same one. Former Pakistani captain strongly defends India’s star

Shubman Gill has come under fire for his recent mediocrity in the white-ball forms.

As Team India prepares for the 2023 World Cup, Shubman Gill’s recent performance is becoming a serious source of concern. Even though Gill scored an undefeated half-century against Nepal, some people were surprised by his performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener. Prior to being defeated by Haris Rauf, he laboured a lot, scoring just 10 runs off 32 balls. Notably, he struggled against Shaheen Afridi, a bowler with the left arm.

When Gill moved from the IPL earlier this year to the international format in June, his divergent performance was obvious. In the World Test Championship final against Australia, Gill, who finished the league as the top scorer, failed to have much of an impact. In the West Indies ODIs, Gill’s scores against the West Indies were 7, 34, and 85. He didn’t score in the double digits in four of the five T20I games on the same tour.

Gill, however, is a top-notch batter who has displayed world-class performances for the Indian side, and it is crucial to note this. In an ODI against New Zealand earlier this year, he scored a spectacular double century, showcasing his extraordinary skill set. Former Pakistani captain Salman Butt is of the opinion that Gill’s difficulties are not due to a lack of talent, but rather to his inability to manage the powerful swing at a particular tempo.

He’s faced Nortje, who moves at a similar tempo. He’s battled Rabada and other opponents. The line, length, and swing are also factors, in addition to the pace, that contribute to it. This is due to Shaheen’s skill set. Shubman Gill, who pushed Nortje off balance and faced up against Lockie Ferguson when he struck the double century in ODIs, is the same Shubman Gill who did both of those things. According to Butt’s official YouTube account, he has demonstrated his abilities against bowlers who are quicker than Shaheen.

“The late swing with fresh ball is Shaheen’s major component. Most hitters find it difficult. Rohit, one of the most seasoned players, also had difficulties despite Shubman’s inexperience. Kohli also was removed. David Warner has also been bothered by Shaheen, continued Butt.

India’s decisive 10-wicket victory over Nepal in their final Group B encounter guaranteed them a ticket in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 round. After the first match between the two sides was called off due to rain, they will now start their campaign against Pakistan in the second round. As Shubman Gill gets ready to go on Pakistan’s strong pace trio once more, he will be attempting to build on the momentum gained from the match against Nepal.
