The low turnout for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 has drawn a lot of criticism, and things remained much unchanged for Monday’s final between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United in Karachi. A number of people shared images of largely empty stands from Karachi’s National Stadium on social media. The users weren’t pleased with the low turnout; some of them even made a comparison between the tournament’s attendance and that of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India. There were just over 29,000 spectators in the WPL final.
Many experts criticized the low attendance even during the playoffs. It “embarrassed” the former captain of Pakistan, Wasim Akram, to witness no fans in Karachi for the playoffs.
Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 champion Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by a margin of two wickets. Martin Guptill scored the most, totaling fifty, while Imad Wasim elegantly concluded the game.
In their first innings, Multan Sultans amassed 159 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs, with Usman Khan scoring a half-century and Iftikhar Ahmed providing the final flourish. Shadab Khan, the captain, finished with three wickets, while Imad Wasim grabbed five, making him the best bowler for Islamabad United.
