The former captain of the Indian cricket team made a huge comment on the 89-run knock of Rahane in the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship.
Team India scored 296 runs in the first innings of the WTC Finals against Australia, and thanks go to the contributions of Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur on Day 3. Rahane, who is the comeback man for the team, showed calm and composure to bail his team out of trouble after they had lost six wickets for 152. He and Shardul Thakur put together a brilliant partnership of 109 runs to help Team India score 296 runs in the first innings.
Former Captain of Team India Sourav Ganguly was very impressed with the performance of Rahane and also said that it’s not easy for anyone to make this amazing comeback after spending so much time away from the team. Ganguly said, “How good it is after 18 months. He (Rahane) was away for 18 months from Test cricket. Many of them had written him off, and probably he himself. It is not easy in Indian cricket for a batter to come back and make a statement. I think it is tremendous. There have been many comebacks in the past, but not after such a long period.”
He further said that “he was magnificent. He fought hard despite wickets falling at the other end. He will be extremely proud of what he has done until lunch.”
The former captain also said that “Rahane showed a lot to the dressing room that if you apply and if you have a little bit of luck, which India have, you will be able to bat on this pitch. A lot of credit goes to Rahane; he was magnificent, and Shardul Thakur as well. He has batted well for India. It’s a good fight for India.”
