The South African bowlers proved formidable when it came time for Scotland, who were chasing their first wickets, as they managed to record the best total in the tournament thus far.

At the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday, South Africa easily defeated Scotland by 80 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, preserving their prospects of making it to the semifinals.Once again, Nonkululeko Mlaba (3/12) spearheaded the bowling attack, reducing the Scots to 86 in 17.5 overs. South Africa now leads Group B with four points from three games after this victory.

Earlier, the Proteas chose to bat first after winning the toss. Laura Wolvaardt (40 balls off 27 balls) and Tazmin Brits (43 balls off 35 balls), the openers, got off to a great start, putting up a 64-run partnership for the first wicket. After failing to get the South African captain in the second over, spinner Katherine Fraser sent Wolvaardt back to the pavilion in the eighth over, ending the partnership.

In order to help her team to a competitive total of 166, all-rounder Marizanne Kapp contributed with the ball, scoring 43 off 24 balls.

Scotland, bowling for the first time, found it difficult to amass the highest score of the tournament when it came time to chase. With Chloe Tyron leading the way with two wickets, Scotland was suffering at 34/3 at the end of the PowerPlay when Katherine Fraser struck the highest score by a Scottish batter (14 off 21 balls).

While Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus, and Annerie Dercksen each claimed one wicket, Nadine de Klerk claimed two.
