Wanindu Hasaranga, a Sri Lankan spinner, has joined Lasith Malinga as the country’s second player to record 100 wickets in T20 Internationals. Hasaranga reached this milestone in only 63 matches, making him the second fastest overall. Hasaranga bowled exceptionally well in the second Twenty20 International against Afghanistan, finishing with statistics of 2/19.
Hasaranga became the 11th men’s player overall and the second Sri Lankan bowler to record 100 wickets in T20Is, after only Lasith Malinga.The leg-spinner, who is presently the T20I team’s captain, achieved the milestone during the second T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla.
Hasaranga has more wickets than any other bowler in men’s T20Is since his debut in 2019.
Malinga was the only other Sri Lankan bowler who had taken more than 100 T20I wickets. Malinga accomplished the milestone in his 76th T20I, while Hasaranga did so in his 63rd, making him the second quickest to 100 T20I wickets, trailing only Rashid Khan in 53 matches in 2021.
Hasaranga, who finished with 2/19 in four overs at Dambulla on Monday, now has 101 wickets in 63 T20Is for an average of 15.36 and a strike rate of 6.78.
