Smith praised Virat Kohli ahead of the series opener and expressed hope that the Indian star would not score a lot of runs in the four-match series.
The much-anticipated Border Gavaskar series begins in a few hours, with both teams eager to take the field despite the controversy surrounding the Nagpur pitch. As two era-defining batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, prepare to collide in the upcoming series, the Australian batting ace has kept any talk of a rivalry with the former Indian captain to a minimum.
Former Australian captain and one of the best red-ball cricketers of this generation, Steve Smith, has a formidable record against India. He, however, dismissed talk of a rivalry with India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli, saying he is focused on his own batting and helping his team win the series.
“No, I don’t believe so. I’m not sure if he believes there is or not. I’m not entirely certain what I feel like. We just go out there and play the game, doing our best for our team. Yeah, hopefully you can score some runs along the way to help us succeed.
“That is my primary goal. I don’t feel like I’m batting against anyone or attempting to compare myself to other batters. “I just want to go out there and do my job and hopefully help the team succeed,” Smith explained.
