Veteran Australian batter Steve Smith has reached a significant milestone by scoring 5,000 runs in one-day international cricket.
He attained the milestone with his 20th run in the third One-Day International against India in Rajkot.
Smith was the fourth-fastest Australian to reach the mark.
Overall, he became Australia’s 17th player to reach 5,000 ODI runs.
Smith hit 5,000 runs in 145 ODI innings, totaling 129 games. Dean Jones needed 128 innings to accomplish the feat.
Among Australians, only David Warner (115 innings) and Aaron Finch (126 innings) have reached the milestone faster.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s current captain, Babar Azam, is the fastest reach the mark, having played only 97 innings.
Smith, who began as a leg-spinner, made his ODI debut in February 2010.
In one-day internationals, he averages 44 or higher.
He has 12 tonnes and 29 fifties in the format, with a top score of 164.
He has 1,200-plus runs at a 56-plus average in 26 ODIs versus India.
He has five centuries and five fifties against India.
In 59 home ODIs, Smith has scored 2,613 runs at an average of 56.8. Smith has nine centuries and twelve fifties at home.
He has over 1,650 ODI runs at a 33-plus average in 60 away (opposing team’s home) matches (50s: 11, 100s: 2).
He has 725 runs in 25 games at 42.64 at neutral settings.
