As the CSK skipper only played three balls in the match against KKR on Sunday night, Dale Steyn used a three-word tweet to express the feelings of the supporters for MS Dhoni.
On Sunday night, Chennai Super Kings suffered a setback in their bid to advance to the playoffs when they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in Chennai. After being held to 144/6 in 20 overs, the CSK bowlers were prevented from pulling off a stunning victory by the partnership of Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, who each hit half-centuries to give the Knight Riders a much-needed victory. The KKR are currently sixth and are still in the running for a playoff spot, while CSK are still in second place with 15 points on the board.
The CSK struggled throughout their whole innings due to a bad start; towards the conclusion of the 11th over, they were left reeling at 72/5 and could only manage a reasonable total thanks to a partnership between Shivam Dube (48*) and Ravindra Jadeja (20). The latter, however, received harsh criticism for failing to boost the run rate in the game’s last overs, and the crowd grew impatient as the innings went on.
While Mahendra Singh Dhoni did reserve himself for the last overs throughout the tournament, he bragged of a strike rate above 200 ahead to the innings on Sunday night. Jadeja’s sluggish knock prevented Dhoni from appearing to the crease early. Even former South Africa great Dale Steyn eventually ran out of patience and vented his frustration on Twitter after Jadeja’s knock.
Minutes before Jadeja was removed from the CSK lineup with two deliveries left in the innings, Steyn penned the phrase “Let Dhoni bat.” But Dhoni was only able to score an undefeated two.
After the home team had scored a respectable 144 for six in 20 overs, Rana and Rinku, both left-handers, demonstrated the essential abilities and patience on a slow wicket to minimise the influence of CSK spinners.
Rana and Rinku were the match-winning duo until Rinku was ran out by a straight hit from Moeen Ali.
