Veteran journalists’ posts and reports claim that Sunil Gavaskar departed the commentary and headed for Kanpur.
The first day of the India-England second Test was all about one man: Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youthful left-handed opener scored an unbeaten 179* to help India reach 336/6 at stumps. While none of the other Indian batsmen, including Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill, reached 35, Jaiswal stood out with his outstanding performance. This is Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second century in Tests, and based on his progress, he appears to be on track for a big innings on the second day of the contest on Saturday.During the day’s play, former Indian cricket team captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar’s mother-in-law passed away. According to reports and posts from senior journalists, Sunil Gavaskar left the commentary and went to Kanpur after the news broke.
India tripped three times in the third session, with Rajat Patidar, Axar Patel, and KS Bharat losing to England’s spin combo of Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir.
Patidar (32) was caught off guard by Rehan’s full-length ball, which had extra bounce and struck him on the glove, causing him to fall to the ground. Patidar’s attempt to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps failed, as he ended up kicking directly at it.
Axar joined Jaiswal at the crease, and the two batsmen combined for 52 runs when Axar’s cut shot went straight into the hands of Rehan in Bashir’s over.
KS Bharat (17) was also dismissed in a similar manner, as he attempted to cut but failed to achieve the proper timing. Ashwin and Jaiswal ensured that India didn’t lose any more wickets before the stumps were called.
