Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, legendary player Sunil Gavaskar has rendered a significant decision.

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian cricketer, has delivered a stunning verdict ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. With fewer than two months till the event, the teams have already begun to prepare. Among his early forecasts for the season, Gavaskar made a daring declaration. The former India batter believes that making it to the IPL 2024 playoffs will be ‘not easy’ for two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR has only made the playoffs once in the last five seasons, and that will be in 2021.

“It won’t be easy to qualify for the playoffs.” They have to because they have the experience, not only of playing on those types of surfaces, but also of playing in the IPL for a time,” Gavaskar told Star Sports, as reported by Sportskeeda.

Gavaskar hailed the Indian batting quartet of Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, and Venkatesh Iyer, who all play for Kolkata Knight Riders.

“I believe that experience is beneficial because you understand the pressure and how to handle it. All four of these players have done an excellent job. Rinku Singh, in particular, has done fantastic work in the last year or two,” Gavaskar remarked.

At the IPL Players Auction 2024, KKR paid a record Rs 24.75 crore for Australia pacer Mitchell Starc, marking him the tournament’s most expensive purchase ever. Starc outperformed his Australian teammate Pat Cummins, who was purchased for Rs 20.5 crore by SunRisers Hyderabad at the same auction.

Despite spending more than half of their budget on Starc, KKR ended the auction with nine more players in the bag. However, the two-time champions struck one of the best deals by signing promising England pacer Gus Atkinson for Rs 1 crore.
