Sri Lanka will rely on the former England Test star’s experience as their batting coach for the series.
Sri Lanka has named former England batsman Ian Bell as its batting coach for the current England tour.
From 2004 to 2015, Bell represented England in 118 Tests, amassing 7727 runs at an average of 42.69. He had 22 hundreds and 46 fifties in his Test career.
Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, believes Bell could provide important insights into local conditions.
“We asked Ian to bring in someone with local experience to provide the players with important insights into the conditions there. Ian has extensive experience playing in England, and we believe his contributions will benefit our team during this critical journey.
Bell will begin working with the team on August 16 and will continue until the three-Test series is completed.
The series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship, with Sri Lanka presently fourth and England sixth.
