Sunrisers Hyderabad have finally unveiled their new captain after a long wait. Aiden Markram has been named SRH captain. SA player beat out Mayank Agarwal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for this honour. Given that Markram recently led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title, he is an excellent choice for the new captaincy. The tournament was also won by the South African.
SRH have had three different captains in the last two seasons, and they need to get out of this mess. Both of their former captains have left the team, and SRH must rebuild. SRH will have two exciting options in Aiden Markram and Mayank Agarwal. While Mayank is a sure-fire starter, Aiden Markram is the team’s batting anchor.
SRH have an experienced campaigner and bowling backbone in Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, he has a history of injuries and could be a difficult choice. In David Warner’s absence, he has led SRH. Furthermore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has fallen out of favour with the national team, and SRH would like to avoid making another costly error.
“To be honest, we support management’s decision on who they want to lead. Being captain isn’t the be-all and end-all. You can also take on some leadership responsibilities. But I’m fine with captaincy; it’s something I enjoy doing,” Markram explained.
