Swapnil Kusale won India’s third medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics after coming third in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final on Thursday at the National Shooting Centre in Châteauroux. Kusale performed admirably in the face of stiff opposition, finishing third in the final with 451.4 points. Swapnil has became the first Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal in the men’s 50m rifle three-position event. This is also the first time that the Indian shooting contingent has won three gold at the same Olympics.
Shooters compete in three different positions: kneeling, prone, and standing, in the 3P event, or Three-Position Rifle shooting. Three sets of five rounds are fired by shooters while they are kneeling or prone during the event. Elimination takes place after the 40th shot, which happens during the second series while in the standing position. The two shooters with the lowest scores are eliminated. All subsequent shots are then considered elimination shots until the winner is established.
