Zaheer Khan stunned everyone when he selected Yash Dayal for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Zaheer Khan, the former pace spearhead from India, has selected Rishabh Pant as the only wicketkeeper in his squad for the T20 World Cup. To give left-arm seamer Yash Dayal his international debut, Khan has given the attack a new facet. Dayal, 26, of Uttar Pradesh, who plays for the Indian Premier League’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru and domestic cricket team Uttar Pradesh, was one of Zaheer’s more intriguing choices. Mohammed Shami’s injury layoff has been considered by him when selecting his team.
“When I talk about Yash Dayal, it’s a floating spot when the 15 are announced because Mohammed Shami will not be available for the tournament.”If you need someone to bowl well, Yash Dayal is one bowler you can count on. Zaheer told Jio Cinema, “He may also be employed as a back-end bowler if you choose, particularly if Siraj’s bowling is inconsistent.
Moreover, Zaheer left out players like Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan in favor of Delhi Capitals skipper Pant, who is the lone wicketkeeper in his team.
“My lone wicketkeeper is Rishabh Pant. I am bringing four pace bowlers because I think that is more important. A fast bowler is not someone you want to give up for another wicketkeeper. Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, and Dinesh Karthik are among your choices.
Because of his strike rate, we can now also take Mahendra Singh Dhoni into consideration! They’ll probably concentrate on active players like Samson, KL Rahul, and possibly even Jitesh Sharma.
“If you’re building a team for a month-long tournament, your travelling reserve can be your wicketkeeper.”
With the disclaimer that only one player will be chosen as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner between Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Zaheer named 16 players in his squad.
Selecting one opener from two excellent alternatives will be the most difficult decision the selectors will face. I believe that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will only succeed to some extent because the think tank will require flexibility from the team.
“A player can’t be limited to just one role, they might need to move around the batting order.”
