He will be given consideration for one of the two opening positions left open by Tamim Iqbal when Tamim was unable to compete in the Asia Cup due to a back ailment, along with Mohammad Naim.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday named a 17-person selection for the Asia Cup, and opener Tanzid Hasan received his first call-up to the national team.
When Tamim Iqbal was unable to compete in the Asia Cup owing to a back ailment, he and Mohammad Naim would be considered for one of the two opening positions.
“Tanzid has been brilliant in the last couple of years and played tremendously well in the recently concluded Emerging Asia Cup,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin stated. “He could put up runs quickly and is an attacking opener. We have a lot of faith in him. Despite being invited to the fitness camp, veteran Mahmudullah, who was benched following the ODI series against England in March, was still not given a chance.
Abdein reported that Mahmudullah was the subject of a lengthy conversation. “Team management provided a future strategy. Mahmudullah must be disregarded in light of all the relevant factors.
