Rain has disrupted the proceedings seven times up to this point.
On Day 3 of the one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Greater Noida, there was no toss. The Greater Noida Sports Complex ground lacked appropriate drainage, so the teams stayed in their hotel rooms instead. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has designated several sites in India for Afghanistan to hold international games at a neutral location.
The decision was made as a result of the nation’s radical activity and certain teams’ hesitation to visit Afghanistan. Following their matches against Ireland and the West Indies in 2019, this was the third time that India served as a neutral ground for the Afghan team. The inclement weather has caused the cancellation of Test matches on previous occasions.
So far, the activities have been hampered by rain seven times. Since their three Ashes matches were canceled, Australia and England have been involved in the most Tests abandoned (3). While New Zealand was hosting Pakistan and India, an equal number of events were canceled for them. Additionally, should the same transpire, the Afghan-New Zealand match will become the first abandoned Test in nearly 26 years, dating back to the Test between India and New Zealand in December 1998 at Carisbrook, Dunedin.
Even though the toss has been postponed multiple times due to inclement weather, the officials have had to alter the format to salvage a game out of a complete mess. An ODI replaced the 1970 Test match between Australia and England. This also applies to the 1989 Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand, which was changed to an ODI.
