Umesh Kumar, a close friend of Mohammed Shami, has disclosed that the fast bowler from India attempted suicide at the lowest point in his career.

Umesh Kumar, a close friend of prominent Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, has talked about the bowler’s terrible period in both his personal and professional life, which even caused him to consider suicide. Notably, Hasin Jahan, the cricketer’s wife, sought for divorce from Shami in March 2018 on grounds of infidelity and domestic abuse.

The fast bowler refuted all of the accusations, branding the whole ordeal as “an attempt to malign his image.” To make matters worse for the cricket player, the 33-year-old was involved in yet another controversy following his lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup 2021 versus Pakistan, where some claimed he had tampered with the match. On his social media sites, the fast bowler received hateful remarks based on religion. The Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly member and friend of Shami, Umesh Kumar, recalled the low moment of his career and said the India star was devastated by all the accusations made against him at that time. “At that time, Shivam was struggling with everything. He shared my home and lived with me. However, he was devastated when the claims of fixation with Pakistan surfaced and prompted an investigation that evening. On Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, “Unplugged,” Umesh stated, “He said that I can tolerate everything, but not accusations of betraying my country.”

Speaking further in advance, Kumar discussed the cricket player’s alleged suicide attempt and related an instance in which he noticed him tensely standing on the balcony at night.

“He expressed a desire to take dramatic measures that evening, even ending his life, according to the news. I woke up to have a drink of water at about four in the morning. I noticed him standing on the balcony as I made my way to the kitchen. We were residing on the nineteenth floor. What transpired made sense to me. I believe that was the longest night in Shami’s career. He received a clean sheet from the committee looking into the situation, according to a message he received on his phone later that day while we were chatting. “I think he was more content that day than he would have been if he had won the World Cup,” he continued. After Shami refuted all of the unfounded accusations, former India captain Virat Kohli also spoke out in favor of the cricket player, criticizing the trolls. Shami broke records at the 2023 ODI World Cup to win back the affection of his supporters after the event.

The speedster finished with 24 wickets from seven innings, making him the tournament’s leading wicket taker. After having surgery to treat his ankle ailment, the cricket player hasn’t played for his country since. Shami is presently receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as he works toward a comeback.
