“I’ve had a great time leading the England women’s team. “Unfortunately, I will not be able to complete this extremely difficult yet rewarding task of building this young team,” Lewis stated.
According to a statement issued by the England Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday, the England women’s cricket team has split with head coach Jon Lewis. Since taking over in November 2022, England Women have won 52 of their 73 games.
The ECB Managing Director for England Women, Clare Connor, expressed gratitude to Jon for his contributions throughout his tenure as head coach. He took up the position following a particularly trying time for cricket players during the pandemic, and one of his top goals was to establish the ideal environment for the team to grow and thrive.”Despite the poor results of the most recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and Women’s Ashes in Australia, we are confident in our talent pool and will soon seek to name a replacement. We need to be prepared for a thrilling international cricket season and to contend for two World Cups in the upcoming 15 months, including the T20 World Cup in our nation the following year.Lewis, who played 15 times for his country and claimed over 1,200 professional wickets in his 19-year career at Gloucestershire, Surrey, and Sussex, said he was pleased of his time with the club.
“I’ve had a great time leading the England women’s team. Regretfully, I will not be able to complete this extremely difficult yet rewarding task of building this young squad while winning and advancing the women’s game in this nation.”With this group of young players, I have worked relentlessly to help them improve their knowledge and abilities in contemporary white ball cricket. We have made good progress in 2024, winning 83% of our games. Seeing record-breaking bumper crowds in 2023 and 2024 makes me proud, and I’m committed to doing everything in my power to advance women’s cricket. Thank you to all of the players for allowing me to share in their experiences, and I wish them all the best.
