The ICC’s approval of a USD 65 million budget for the Champions Trophy 2025 included a strong indication that India may not be visiting Pakistan for the right-team competition.
At its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo, the ICC recently approved a budget of almost 65 million US dollars. In the event that India refuses to go to Pakistan for the ICC event, the budget has accounted for the increased expense of hosting the event. The site or venues “outside Pakistan,” however, was not mentioned by the ICC.
“After working with management to develop an event budget, PCB signed the host agreement and presented it to F&CA for approval. According to sources, the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) permission letter adds that “management has also approved an estimate of the increase in the cost of staging the event if it is necessary to play some matches outside Pakistan.” “In March 2024, a planning meeting and site inspection of the suggested match locations were held in Pakistan. All three locations are undergoing extensive renovations to improve their facilities.” The CEC report continues, “It has been learned that the PCB has started work on renovating the three designated locations, which are Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
