The inaugural SA20 tournament final between the Pretoria Capitals and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape has been officially rescheduled.
SA20 organisers sent out a media notice on Saturday morning that the match was still scheduled to begin at 16:30 as planned but organisers “would continue to monitor the weather and advise on any further updates as the day progressed”.
“If the rain came just after the toss, the outcome of the toss will remain in place for Sunday. If a team is 100/3 after 14 overs, you resume on that score.”
However, it has now been officially confirmed that the SA20 Final between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, scheduled for Saturday, 11 February at the Wanderers, has been postponed due to a waterlogged field and inclement weather.
The SA20 final will begin at 13h30 on Sunday, February 12th, the scheduled reserve day.
The ground preparation for the match has been hampered by the pitch remaining covered for three days and more than 200ml of rain falling since Wednesday this week. The SA Weather Service predicts more showers for the rest of Saturday, with a clearer forecast for Sunday.
“We’ve engaged the match officials, teams, groundsman, stakeholders, and the SA Weather Service, and postponing the match is the best decision to allow for the possibility of a full match in drier conditions,” SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith said. We want the Final to be memorable for both the teams and the spectators.”
